Our unit this week is all about people who keep us safe. Our verse for this week is from Psalms 16:1
Keep me safe, O God, for in you I take refuge
Materials:
A telephone, or a play phone
Directions:
Say the verse above with your child. We suggest that you print the verse off and use it every morning with your calendar time.
If you don’t do calendar time still say the verse each morning with your tot before you begin tot school
Using the telephone ask your tot to make some pretend phone calls to you. Play along and talk back to your tot.
Talk about the Following with your child
Its fun to call mommy or daddy on the phone, isn’t it. Sometimes though you call on mommy and daddy when your scared, don’t you? It can be dark outside, or maybe there is a storm and we hear lots of thunder and see lightning and worry that we won’t be safe. I know that when you’re scared you normally call for mommy, or for daddy, and that’s a good thing, because we will always come to you when you call for us. You don’t need a telephone to call for mommy and daddy though, do you? Did you know that God hears us when we call for Him? We don’t need a phone for him either! Just like mommy and daddy, when you call for God, He will come to you. God won’t come in your room, or hug you when your scared, but He does come into your heart. When you call for God to keep you safe from the things that scare you He takes away the fear that you have and will make things better. When you are scared call out to God to keep you safe, and He will always come to make you feel better. Our verse talks about God being our refuge, and that is a big word for a safe place. Let’s thank God for keeping us safe, and for being there when we call for Him.
Dear Father, thank you for coming to us when we call out for you. We know that you love us, and that you will always make us feel better when we are scared. Be with us today as we play and learn. We pray this in your name, Amen.
