The True Vine

This post may contain affiliate or advertiser links. Read my full disclosure policy .

This week we are learning all about pumpkins.  Our memory verse for the week is John 15:1.

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener.”

Materials:

  • A pumpkin

Directions:

  • Say the verse above with your child.  We suggest that you print the verse off and use it every morning with your calendar time.

  • If you don’t do calendar time still say the verse each morning with your tot before you begin tot school

  • Using a pumpkin, talk about the devotional with your child.

  • This devotional will go hand and hand with our suggested field trip for this week.  We suggest you do the devotional after you’ve visited a pumpkin patch.

  • If you aren’t able to visit a pumpkin patch, talk about the devotional using the life cycle cards you can find here.

Talk about the following with your tot:

We picked this pumpkin special, didn’t we?  We went out to the pumpkin patch and got him to take home with us, huh?  Do you remember what this pumpkin was on? Do you remember the really long things that were all over the ground?  Some of them were so long and twisty that you feet got all tangled in them, remember?  Those things are called vines.  Our pumpkin grew on one.  Vines bring good things to the pumpkins so that they can grow.  Do you remember how we took our pumpkin and picked him from the vine?  We did that so he could come home with us, but because he isn’t on his vine anymore, he won’t get any bigger.  Jesus tells us in our verse today that He is like a vine for us.  He tells us that we have to stay close to Him to keep growing and learning new things.  Reading our Bible Verse everyday, saying our prayers, and learning about Jesus through our Bible stories are all ways of staying close to Jesus.   Lets ask God in our prayer today if He will help us stay close to Him and Jesus.

Dear Father, We thank you so much for loving us and taking care of us.  Thank you for giving us the Bible, so that we can grow closer to you and learn more about you.  We ask that you would help us want to know more about you each day, so we can always stay close to you.  Amen

Questions to ask your tot:

  • You might want to review last weeks questions with your tot.
  • Who is like a vine for us to keep growing?  Jesus
  • If we keep learning about God and Jesus we will keep growing?  Yes!
