Tots Around Town: Apple Picking

For our apple unit we went apple picking! We took E and Lil’ Man and visited a local apple orchard.

We took a wagon ride out to the orchard and asked our driver for some tips on apple picking!

The first apples we picked were Golden Delicious Apples.  We were told to look for apples that were more yellow than green.  We told the kiddos this, but they just wanted to keep picking!

We decided to go to a couple more sections of the orchard so the tots could keep picking!

We got Jonagold apples, which should be a mix of red and green, and Winesap, which should be deep red when ripe.

We kept our apples and later we did a taste test to pick which one we liked the best.  E’s favorite was the Golden Delicious, and I preferred (or became addicted, its all about perspective) to the Jonagold.

You can check for apple orchards in your state and area here.  We recommend calling ahead and checking the “picking conditions”.

This is a GREAT field trip for the family.  Let us know if you go apple picking!
