Tot School- My Body

This post may contain affiliate or advertiser links. Read my full disclosure policy .

Lil’man is 32 months.

Well, we officially started back this past week.  Now mind you, we aren’t doing everything that I would like to be doing, such as calendar time, but we aren’t in a hurry.  Plus, my husband and I are trying to rearrange some furniture to make room for a Tot School area.   I can’t wait to get it all set up!  Designing a classroom is definitely one of the things I miss about teaching.

Anyway, this week we focused on learning all about the body (external parts only).  If you would like to download my lesson plan or any printables that may have been created then visit 2 Teaching Mommies, my new website, where I am hosting them.

Here are the things we did.

Language Arts: We focused on the letter B.  We create a B for Body and glued body parts all around it.

We played memory with pictures of B words and we sifted through rice to find find letter tiles.  Then we put the letters together (with lots of help from mommy) to spell various parts of the body, such as arm, leg, hand, etc.

We also read lots of books.  Here are a couple of our favorites!

Math Concepts: For Math we reviewed shapes and colors by make a Shape Person.  Once Lil’man got it all glued on, we labeled the parts of the body.

We also created patterns in AABBAA format, using images of body parts.  I made the mistake of having all the images in view, so he struggled with following the pattern because he wanted to use the other ones.  Once I hid the parts we weren’t using he was able to focus better.

Science Concepts (Body): We had a lot of fun with talking and singing about the parts of the body.  My boy loves to sing and dance!  The boy was very familiar with them, but he did learn some new ones like wrist, hips, ankle, etc.  We made a mini book from DLTK’s Growing Together called My Body.

The boy also enjoyed doing a body puzzle, which was his very first jigsaw puzzle.  He needed help the first time, but now he is a pro!  I am very impressed with how he can handle a 24 piece puzzle all by himself. He also enjoyed putting silly faces on Mr. Potato Head.

On top of those activities, we visited www.sesamestreet.org and enjoyed a few of their playlists that were all about the body.  We also played God Made Me a Click & Learn game that I created using MS Office Power Point.

Extras: Since we were talking about the body, we had some extra fun this week by making sugar cookies and cutting gingerbread men out.  I also made him a fun little sandwich one day.

So, that was our first week in Tot School.  Again, you can get the lesson plan and printables we used for this week at my other site, 2 Teaching Mommies, which I write with Amber from The Belly of The Whale.   Next week we will be focusing on My Family, My Home! I hope you stop by to check it out!

Don’t forget to see what others are doing at 1+1+1=1!

Thank you for the encouragement Carisa. Amber and I have had so many friends that wanted to do Tot School with their kiddos, but we’re just a bit overwhelmed with the planning part. We wanted to give back because we have been so blessed by our favorite tot websites.

It looks like a fun week!

Setting up my classroom is one of the things I really miss from teaching too. I do have a designated school room here at home (I homeschool my oldest) but I never make that many changes to it.

I look forward to reading more from you and will be back soon (when the kids get to nap time and I can focus more!) to keep reading! 🙂
