Still Waters

This week our theme is Ponds!  Our verse comes from Psalms 23.

“He leads me beside still waters, He refreshes my soul.”

Materials:

  • A bathtub or something with water in it that is still

Directions:

  • Fill your bathtub with some water.
  • Say the verse above with your tot.  We suggest that you print the verse off and use it every morning with your calendar time.  If you don’t do calendar time still say the verse each morning with your tot before you begin tot school.
  • Follow the cues given in this devotional.

Talk with your child about the following:
This week we’ve been learning all about ponds and the animals that live in them. Ponds have water in them and animals that live in them. Can you think of some of the animals that live in ponds? Yes, we’ve talked about some of those this week, haven’t we?

I have put some water in the bathtub and we’re going to look at it for a little while. You see, ponds are bodies of water that are a lot like big bathtubs. They are full of water, but the water doesn’t really go anywhere. It stays put, just like the water in this bathtub. Now if we touch the water, or run our hands through it, or throw something in it, the water moves, doesn’t it? But, if we just sit here and look at it, nothing happens to it, does it?

Our verse today talks to us about “still waters”, like the water in this tub, or the water in a pond. You see, still water is something we call peaceful. We’ve talked about peace before. Do you remember what peaceful is? When something is peaceful it means there isn’t anything causing trouble. Everything is safe, and good, and quiet. Our verse reminds us that God can make everything for us peaceful, like the water. When we trust God He can make things safe, good, and quiet. Sometimes things will happen, and we will feel scared, or sad, or angry, but our verse reminds us that just like ponds are still and peaceful, God can make our hearts peaceful too. Let’s pray,

Dear God, we know that you can make all things peaceful. Sometimes we don’t feel at peace, but we know that you are a God who leads us to still waters, and calms our hearts when we’re scared. Help us find your peace today, and give us peace when we need it most. In your name we pray, Amen.

Questions to ask:

  • You might want to review last weeks questions with your tot.
  • Who gives us peace? God

There is a Mommy Devotional for this also.
