Over the years I have begun using technology more and more in my daily life. As a mom it has helped me to organize our family schedule, divvy up chores among family members, and offer a little entertainment every once and a while for our kids. So “screen time” has become a nice incentive for my kids to complete their chores and school. I’ll usually reward them with a tv show or game after they have done what they need to do. One app we recently discovered has become a great incentive for my oldest son. It’s a puzzle game called Stained Glass – Reveal God’s Story.

About Stained Glass Game

Stained Glass is a fun new app that seeks to reveal God’s Word to a new audience through progressively more challenging game play. Like Candy Crush Saga or Bejeweled you have to match up similar objects to advance to new levels and worlds. As you collect the required amount of colored glass pieces you reveal more of an image from a bible story. After completing five or so levels a short video will play telling a part of a bible story.

Stained Glass – Reveal God’s Story is available for FREE in the App Store and Google Play. You can however purchase additional lives and gold bars to help you advance through the levels quicker so I would advise parents to turn off in app purchases in your device settings, if you don’t want your child freely making purchases.

Our Favorite Things About Stained Glass

  • Fun for All Ages. The game is geared for kids 4 and up (but adults can play it too). Stained Glass has served as a great incentive for our oldest son because he gets the sense of accomplishment from completing levels while also learning more about biblical history. Most of the games we let our boys play on the iPad have some sort of educational bent, so Stained Glass has been a good fit for us.

  • Visually Appealing and Calming Music. I think parents will find that Stained Glass is a nice change of pace from other similar games on the app store. Stained Glass has a quieter, more methodical feel to it. Soft instrumental music plays in the background as you try to complete your next sequence of colored glass. Each new level reveals more of a stained glass image which quietly animates and transforms. The visuals, especially the stained glass images, are very colorful and detailed and the story is presented in a new and engaging way.

  • Entertaining and Edifying.  Mom’s who are looking for new ways to get their kids excited about the bible and it’s stories will enjoy this app. After a stained glass image is completed a historical biblical figure appears to tell their story. Eve retells the story of creation and the fall from her perspective by adding some detail that makes the story seem more personal and real. So the story does stray from the biblical text in that way, but it can serve as a great starting point to opening up the bible with your child and discovering the truth of God’s Word together.

The Bottomline

If you’re looking for a fun and safe game with some redeeming value for your child to play then this is a great free option.  I’m happy we found Stained Glass. It has been a good incentive for my son. Personally, I’m interested to see what other bible stories will be reveal as he progresses through the game.
