“If you love me, you will obey what I command ”

Materials:

  • Some conversation hearts

Directions:

  • Say the verse above with your tot.  We suggest that you print the verse off and use it every morning with your calendar time.  If you don’t do calendar time still say the verse each morning with your tot before you begin tot school.
  • Follow the cues given in this devotional.

Talk with your child about the following:
This week we are doing things to help us get ready for Valentine’s Day!  Valentine’s Day is a fun day where we get to show one another how much we love each other.  On Valentine’s Day we might give each other some candy, or send each other cards, or we might even buy some balloons!  What people do might be different because everyone shows their love for each other in different ways.

Can you think of some ways that mommy/daddy shows you they love you?  We might give you a hug or a kiss, huh?  Maybe we will hold your hand, or snuggle with you when we watch a movie?  We also say kind things to you, and make you your favorite foods to eat, and play games and watch cartoons with you.  When you love somebody as much as we love you, you find lots of ways to show it!  I’ve got with me some Sweethearts.  You can tell they have words on them, but do you know what they say?  They say things like “Kiss Me”, “Love Me”, or “Your Mine”.  These candies are another way some people show they love each other.

Our verse today talks about how we can show God that we love Him.  In it Jesus tells us that if we love God, we will obey what He tells us.  That means that if God were to give us a candy heart it might say “Listen To Me”, or “Obey Me”, which is just a fancy way of saying “do what I ask you to!”.  God gives us many things to do in the Bible.  He tells us to listen to our parents, to be kind to one another, and serve Him.  It might seem like He gives us those rules to keep us from doing things we would like to do, but really He is giving us rules because He loves us, and He wants what’s best for us.  Doing what God tells us is not only best for us, it is also a way we can show God that we love Him.  Let’s Pray,

Dear Heavenly Father, We know that you love us very much.  We love you, too.  We want to show you each day just how much we love you, and that means that we will try to do the things you have told us to do in the Bible.  We know that you see what we do, and that it brings you joy when you see us following you, because that is how we show you we love you!  Be with us this week, and help us to show your love to everyone.

Questions to ask:

  • You may want to review last weeks questions with your tot
  • What can we do to show we love God?  Obey him

I just bought Conversation Hearts for our Sunday School class today! I can’t wait to share this lesson with them! Thanks so much!

Lately in my own life I think God’s Conversation Heart to me would say “Surrender All” and “Be joyful always”… 🙂

Sometimes I think my conversation heart from God would be “Slow Down!” Glad you enjoyed the lesson!
