The Polar Lands

This post may contain affiliate or advertiser links. Read my full disclosure policy .
This unit has been expanded. So, make sure and check out the additional printables here.

Here is what we’ve been doing this week. Let us know what you think.  We hope by providing these materials to you free of charge, it will make your life easier!Lesson Plan: The lesson plan includes all the lessons for the week, as well as optional ideas. Items following the lesson plan are just the printables or links to websites we used to teach these plans.  (Please note: On top of our lesson plan we are reading books daily that relate to our theme.)

Memory Verse: This memory card is for daily use during our calendar time.  You can learn more about calendar time at 1+1+1=1 or Homeschool Creations.  Our weekly devotional is an object lesson that will help your child apply the meaning of the verse to them.

*Special Note: Some of the clipart in this unit can be hard to see if printed on fast draft.

Day 1:
Polar Animal Spelling- This activity will help your child begin to recognize that when letters are combined they form words.

Polar Patterns- This activity will help your child begin to recognize, describe and extend patterns.

Polar Lands Power Point- Enjoy learning about what animals are found in polar regions and how the land looks.

Day 2:
Polar Bear Writing Maze- This activity adds a little “spice” to working on beginning writing skills.

Roll & Graph: Polar Animals– This activity will introduce your child to data collection and interpretation. Once you’ve completed the graph (first item to # of choice), make sure to ask simple questions.  Such as, “Which color is taller? What item is that?  Which color is shorter? Which item is that? How many times did we give the (item) a sticker?”  Make sure to show them how to use the graph, instead of just counting the stickers.

Polar Animal Tracks– Have fun learning about the tracks that polar animals make with these picture puzzles. We recommend printing this on cardstock and laminating.
Day 3:
Polar Animal Beginning Sounds- Helps your child to focus in on the beginning letter sounds he/she hears and then to identify which letter makes that sounds.
Feed the Penguin– This activity will help your child begin to read whole numbers 1-10.  Attach the picture below to a cereal box and cut a hole in the penguin’s beak.  Flip a number card and feed that many goldfish crackers to the penguin.

Polar Sensory Tub– A fun activity to help your child better visual the arctic in the warmth of your own home.  If you don’t have snow in your area, you can create homemade snow (scroll down to Making Snow) or your can create a homemade iceberg.

Yes. We originally set it up this way to prevent accidental edits from little fingers, but you could still see it as a “Read Only.”

However, after looking into a bit more I went ahead and saved it differently. Go ahead and download it again and let me know if it works for you.
