This weekend “The Fastest Two Minutes in Sports” will be happening here in KY. It’s a pretty big deal. I mean where else do you get the Friday before a sporting event off from public school?

When I think of the Derby I think of the horses, the garland of the roses, the uniforms. Until yesterday…
While attending a mom’s bible study yesterday one of the group leaders, Robin gave a wonderful visual God shared with her that I want to remember.
In the Derby you have a few key players.
The horse. – The one chosen to run the race.
The jockey. – The one who guides the horse and directs them where to go.
The trainer. – The one who trains the horse to respond to the jockey’s leading and prepares them for the race they will run.
These same roles could be applied to my children’s lives…with a bit of a twist.
The child. – The one chosen to run the race.
God. – The one who guides and directs them where to go.
Me, the parent. – The one who trains the child to respond to the Lord’s leading and prepares them for the race they will run.
Sometimes I struggle with my role. I think or desire to be the jockey in my sons’ lives. But I’m not called to be the jockey. I’m called to be the trainer.
Have any of you ever struggled with your parental role?
