We will be learning all about The Ocean this week. So, I found some fun themed books to go with our activities. Below are a couple of our favorites, so far:
The Deep Blue Sea: A Book of Colors is a fun story that will introduce or reinforce colors. Each color word is type in its corresponding color, which my son gets a kick out of. He will constantly flip back to the previous page to see the color words. The story starts off with just seeing the sea and then it begins to zoom in to a specific place in the sea. It’s simple text builds page by page and creates a rhythmic repetition that makes it easy for children to “read” along with you. The illustrations are brightly colored and each page offers a clue as to what is coming next. It is already one of the boy’s favorites.
Fidgety Fish and Friends is another colorful read. This book is about a fish named Tiddler, who just can’t sit still. A subject which many of us moms and teachers are familiar. So, his mom sends him outside to get his wiggles out, but warns him to stay away from the Big Fish. As Tiddler swims about in the scenic ocean he meets different ocean animals, and unfortunately mistakes the Big Fish’s mouth for a cave. Not to worry, his fidgets save him from his doom. This is a very cute book that toddlers and preschoolers are bound to love.
