Muppets Most Wanted {Review}

Muppets Most Wanted“We’re doing a sequel.” The Muppet gang is together again in Muppets Most Wanted and they’re picking up right where they left off.

Storyline

The last time we saw the Muppets they dazzled us with a stage show like only the Muppets could pull off. This time they’re taking the show on the road…to Europe! And what does every good tour need? An experienced tour manager! Enter Dominic Badguy (pronounced “Badgee,” it’s French!) played by Ricky Gervais. Not surprisingly Dominic has ulterior motives as he is simply a lap dog for the master criminal Constantine–who incidentally bears a striking resemblance to Kermit the Frog. Constantine breaks out of the Siberian gulag headed by Nadya (played by Tina Fey) and Interpol agent Jean Pierre Napoleon (played by Ty Burrell) is called into action to put an end to Constantine’s crime spree.

Overall

I found this flick more enjoyable than the last Muppets feature. They come out of the gate with big musical numbers, well-placed celebrity cameos, and plenty of self-deprecating commentary. It’s the kind of entertainment and humor the Muppets are known for. The previous feature was so devoted to reintroducing the Muppets characters to a new audience. This movie benefits by being able to give more time to absurd puppet-driven action and snarky humor.

Bottom Line

This movie is fun for the whole family. The kids will love the colorful characters and the parents can’t help but laugh at the all-to-corny humor. It’s rated PG for violence, but we’re talking about puppets here. My husband said he could have done without the male inmates rehearsing in tights and belly shirts but I wouldn’t throw up any road blocks over it. There’s no overriding themes or virtues of note, but you won’t have to explain any misbehavior to your kids either. I think this one is worth the price of admission.

Bonus

And of course there’s always a bonus. Disney is making a name for itself (as if it hasn’t already) with their shorts preceding the feature. This one puts Mike and Sulley back on the big screen with the rest of the Oozma Kappa gang. They are “Stealing the Party” and those of you who enjoyed Monster’s University will love this short! Somehow Squishy’s mom continues to be the coolest monster in the Monster’s Inc. franchise. You have to see it.
