Make Money From Home With VIPKID

This post may contain affiliate or advertiser links. Read my full disclosure policy .

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of VIPKID. All opinions are 100% mine.

The decision for my family to become a one-income household did not come without its challenges. More than eight years ago we decided it was better for our family for me to stay home with our son than to make money as a public school teacher. The financial sacrifice hasn’t always been easy, but after all these years our basic needs are being met and we’re seeing the relational and spiritual benefits to our entire family.

Yet there are still times when a little extra cash would be nice. Who doesn’t like to take a quick getaway from time to time or actually have the cash to pay for a new air conditioner when it bites the dust in the middle of summer? A little extra money can go a long way, but finding an opportunity to make money that fits into your lifestyle is not easy to come by.

Traditional part-time work will take you away from your home and family while your boss dictates your schedule. A work-from-home position might fit your family’s needs, but many of them require you to be available during normal business hours. So, how can you make money and still be there for your family? There’s an unique teaching opportunity that gives you the chance to use your skills to enrich someone else’s life and put some extra dough in your bank account. It’s called VIPKID and if you have any four-year degree and some teaching experience in the classroom or homeschool environment you could become a VIPKID teacher.

What is VIPKID?

VIPKID connects young students from China with qualified and capable English-speaking teachers in North America and around the world. Teachers login to a virtual classroom from their home computer and spend a few hours a day sharing the English language 1-on-1 with eager learners in a fun and engaging way. Teachers can earn as much as $22 per hour and work as little as 7.5 hours per week (typically early in the morning).

What would you do with an extra $1,000-$2,000 per month?

VIPKID gives stay-at-home moms the opportunity to make some extra money while setting their own schedule and working from home. But this is not just a community of homemakers, graduate students, full-time teachers and world travelers are signing on to be VIPKID teachers. Since 2013, VIPKID has grown a team of more than 20,000 qualified teachers who are connecting with more than 200,000 Chinese students to share their language and build a bridge between two cultures.

Make Money as a VIPKID Teacher

The big question everyone asks is, “Do I have to be able to speak Chinese?”

No! VIPKID uses the ESL system of teaching English. Through prepared slides and props you’ll fully immerse your students in the English language during each 25-minute teaching session. The other concern interested teachers share is, “I’ve never taught English to anyone!”

VIPKID prepares each of its teachers with a thorough training before they become full-fledged teachers in the VIPKID system. If you meet the basic qualifications you could be a VIPKID teacher.

All teachers must have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in any field (does not need to be an education degree)
  • One school year of full-time teaching experience or equivalent hours in similar educational activities (e.g. home schooling, tutoring, educational mentoring etc)
  • Eligibility to work in US or Canada

As an interested teacher you’ll go through an application and interview process which includes teaching a demo class. Once selected you’ll participate in a training period and practicum. Then you’ll be ready to set your schedule and begin teaching students.

The technology requirements are minimal. All you need is a computer with a high-speed internet connection, a webcam and a good headset with a microphone. Also, VIPKID teachers I know say it’s best if you have a dedicated space in your home since you’ll be making use of other props and visuals during your lessons.

Join the VIPKID Community

The VIPKID teacher community is growing all the time. I’ve seen where teachers are hosting meetups for encouragement and to share best practices. You can even find resources online that will help you prepare for your demo class to ensure you earn a spot with VIPKID. You won’t be alone in this unique experience. Some have even found a new side to themselves through this experience. You maybe a morning person and not even know it. You may even discover benefits for the rest of your family as your children learn about a new culture and get their mother’s undivided attention during the day. Check out this stay-at-home mommy’s story!

VIPKID is currently interviewing for more teachers. You can book an interview on their website and begin working part-time in a few weeks. This may be just the opportunity you’ve been looking for to make money, while working from home and doing something you enjoy. Check out the links below to learn more about this unique opportunity.
