Lucky Charms Graphing & Observations

Every year around St. Patrick’s Day we like to buy a box of Lucky Charms and have a little bit of math fun.

Lucky Charm Graphing and Obersvations

Lucky Charms Graphing
& Observations

As some of you may know, we already have a Lucky Charms Graphing activity in our preschool pack, but I decided to create a more advance one for my son this year.  And while I was at it I simplified it too for the tot in your life. To do this activity all you need to do is provide your kiddo(s) with an handful of Lucky Charms marshmallows (no more than 10 of each one or 5 for the tot one).

If you’re doing the preschool or tot one, simply have your child place each marshmallow in the square above the corresponding picture or covering one of the grayed out images (tot version).  If graphing to 10 is to much for your child cut or fold to the desired number.  The same goes for the number of marshmallows…if 8 is too many, simply fold or cut the graph to include only the number of marshmallows desired.

If you decide to do the K version, then you’ll need a crayon or marker to color in the number of squares that corresponds to the number of each marshmallow they received.  Then they can answers the questions.  Make sure they predict before you give them their handful.

I also decided to create an observation sheet this year.  Tot through Kinder students love this activity which allows them to use all their senses to explore the marshmallows.

I recommend either laminating, using a Crayola Dry-Erase Activity Center or page protectors when using these sheets because I guarantee you’ll be doing them every year, if not more than once during the month of March.  Dry-erase and Vis-a-Vis markers work great and can be found in a variety of colors.
