The verse you will be working with your child on this week is Psalm 30:2.

“Lord my God, I called to you for help, and you healed me.”

Materials:

  • Memory Verse Card
  • A First Aid Kit

Directions:

  • Let your child go through the first aid kit and talk about some of the things they see, and what they are used for.
  • Go over the devotion with your child
  • Say the verse above with your tot.  We suggest that you print the verse off and use it every morning with your calendar time.  If you don’t do calendar time still say the verse each morning with your tot before you begin tot school.

Talk with your child about the following:
There are a lot of things in this first aid kit, huh.  We have band aids, and we know they are used to cover our boo boos, aren’t they.  There is some medicine in here for mommy or daddy when they don’t feel good, and there is some medicine for you too!  This week we have been learning about people who keep us healthy, and we’ve talked some about how nurses, doctors, and dentists help us take care of our bodies. We don’t have a doctor that is always here to help us, but there are a lot of things in this first aid kit that would make us feel better if we weren’t feeling too good, huh?  Sometimes though, when we don’t feel good, its not because our bodies are hurting, its because our feelings are hurting. Have you ever felt sad?  How about angry, or scared?  Sometimes when we don’t feel good, band aids and medicine wouldn’t make us feel any better, would they?  Our Bible verse today tells us that God is with us no matter what happens to help us feel better.  He may not be right here with us where we can see Him, but He did leave us His word in the Bible to help us feel better.   Just like the first aid kit can help us when we can’t see the doctor, the Bible can help us when we need to see God.  The Bible is kind of like a first aid kit for our hearts.  It isn’t full of band aids, but it is full of verses and words that God himself gave to us.  It helps us to remember that God is with us, even if we can’t see Him with our eyes, and that no matter what happens He will be there to help us and make us feel better.  Let’s pray to God and thank Him that He gave us the Bible, and that He  loves us and wants to help us.

God, you have given us so much, and we thank you.  You know that sometimes our bodies don’t feel as good as they should, and we ask that you would strengthen and heal us if we are hurting.  You know too, Lord, that our hearts can sometimes hurt.  We thank you that you gave us your word to help us to feel better.  Help us remember that you are with us, and that you will always be there to heal our hurts when we ask.  In your name we pray,  Amen.

Questions to ask:

  • You may want to review last weeks questions with your tot
  • What is like a first aid kit for out heart?  The Bible
  • Who gave us that first aid kit? God
