You’ll use this lesson 10 days before Easter. You’ll be using the third resurrection egg, which is light purple (color may vary) and will have a cup on the inside.  clip_image002

Before you do the lesson we recommend that you read a short segment about the Last Supper. We will be using The Beginner’s BibleAffilated link. (pg. 442-445), The Jesus Storybook BibleAffilated link. or Read and Share: The Ultimate DVD Bible – Volume 2 (pg. 174-175)Affilated link.

Talk with your child about the story:

Today we read about a very special dinner that Jesus had with his friends.  Jesus’ friends were called the disciples, and they loved Jesus very much.  Sometimes though they didn’t quite understand what Jesus would do or say.  Today’s egg talks about one of those times.  Do you want to open today’s egg?  What’s inside?  Its a little cup!  At this special dinner Jesus took a cup and filled it with wine, which is something good to drink.  Jesus had the cup ready to give each of His friends some to drink.

They drank from the cup and then Jesus told him that the cup of wine was like His body, and His blood.  That seems kind of weird, huh?  You see, Jesus had been talking with God, and God had told Jesus that soon He would have to die on the cross.  Jesus knew what was going to happen, but His friends didn’t, and they didn’t know why Jesus had to die.  Jesus tried to let them know by using the wine in the cup.  Just like Jesus was giving them the wine to drink, He was going to give up His blood, which kept Him alive, for His friends too.  Jesus wants us to remember that He gave His blood for all of us, and that is why we remember the cup.
