Day 1-The Donkey

You’ll use this lesson 12 days before Easter. You’ll be using the first resurrection egg, which is light blue (color may vary) and will have a small donkey on the inside.  Each day we will have a coloring page that goes along with the days lesson.  You can keep these and make them into a book that serves as a timeline of the Easter events.

Before you do the lesson we recommend that you read the story of Palm Sunday to your child.  We will be using The Beginner’s BibleAffilated link. (pg. 427-431), The Jesus Storybook BibleAffilated link. or Read and Share: The Ultimate DVD Bible – Volume 2 (pg. 168-171)Affilated link.

Talk with your child about the story:
Today we read a little bit about the story of Jesus and what happened when he went into Jerusalem.  I have something with me that we’re going to be using for the next couple of days.  Each day we are going to look at one of these eggs, and in it is something special that has to do with Easter.  Do you want to open up the first egg?  What is it?  That’s right, its a donkey.  Think back to our story.  Why do you think there is a donkey in this egg?  Do you remember what Jesus rode on?  That’s right!  Jesus rode in on a donkey, and some of the people in the town were very happy to see him.  They were so happy to see him they wanted to do something special!  Each of the people that had come to see Jesus laid leaves, called Palms, out in front of his donkey so that he could walk on it.  The leaves were like a great big welcome mat!  Jesus had come to town for a very special reason, and we’ll be learning more about that in the next couple of days.

I think you should still be able to join in. Here are the items that you’ll need for the 12 days: donkey, silver coins, cup or bread, praying hands, leather whip, crown of thorns, 3 nails, a die, a spear, a piece of cloth, a stone and the last one is empty. I’m sure that anything that you can’t get, you’ll be able to find a picture of online.
