Being in the first year of homeschooling, I really appreciated the break down of the “Schools of Homeschooling” at the beginning of the chapter.  I was aware of a few of these areas, but hadn’t really dug in to learn more about where our family might fit.  I didn’t think it was a huge issue, but the Clarksons make a great point on page 99.

“Families that begin homeschooling with a sense of conviction and confidence about the approach they want to pursue are better equipped to navigate the ocean of options and to avoid uncertainty and drifting.”

So, after reading this chapter, I think I lean more towards Charlotte Mason, but I don’t know if I’ve landed on our set style yet. We are getting ready to dive into K full time and I seem to like different approaches for different subjects. For example, I like classical instruction for math and some reading/writing instruction, but for history & science I prefer the Charlotte Mason/ whole-book method.

What “school” of homeschooling does your family fit into?
