A Homeschool Writing Curriculum That Truly Inspires Young Writers

This post may contain affiliate or advertiser links. Read my full disclosure policy .

Every good parent wants to find good role models for their kids to follow. There are plenty of folks you want your kids to avoid and Lord knows we know we can’t be everything our child needs. So we try to find people whose values align with ours and whose skills can inspire our children to do big things someday. It’s easier said than done.

Our oldest son loves to read and to express his creativity through writing, but I must admit that I don’t know that many Christian writers for kids. I’d like for him to find an author whose style appeals to him so he can see how he can one day glorify God through his writing.

Writers in Residence™ is a homeschool writing curriculum for your 4th-8th grader that will not disappoint. Learn why it is our homeschool’s writing curriculum of choice and what makes it unique.

Disclosure: I received this product for free and was compensated for my time. All opinions expressed are my own and I was not required to post a positive review.

That’s why I was so excited to find Writers in Residence™ from Debra Bell and Apologia. This language arts program gives you everything you want in a good homeschool writing curriculum — it focuses on grammar, teaches different writing formats and styles, but where it sets itself apart is that it includes profiles of notable Christian authors.

I recently checked out Writers in Residence™ Volume 2 All-in-One Student Textbook and Workbook and I LOVE IT! I highly recommend this homeschool writing curriculum. Here’s what you need to know about this excellent program.

ABOUT WRITERS IN RESIDENCE™, VOLUME 2 ALL-IN-ONE STUDENT TEXTBOOK AND WORKBOOK AND ANSWER KEY

Writers in Residence™ is our homeschool’s writing curriculum of choice. What makes it unique is that it is designed to help students “tap into their creativity and unleash their voices for God’s glory!” I love that!

They fulfill this mission by leading students to develop proper grammar skills and exposing them to new forms of writing. The 32-week curriculum is designed to be student-led with plenty of opportunities built in for parents to review their student’s work. An evaluation rubric is included with each assignment so parents can be assured their young writers are on the right track.

Writers in Residence™ Volume 2 All-in-One Student Textbook and Workbook is for students in 4th-8th grade. It is designed to build on the skills developed in Volume 1.

WHAT I LIKE ABOUT THIS HOMESCHOOL WRITING CURRICULUM

It helps develop my son independence. First, I love that this homeschool writing curriculum is student-led. Students work through this curriculum on their own. Then they seek out feedback from their peers and correction from their parents.

Writers in Residence™ is written to the student in a way that engages them directly. The layout is very intuitive and easy to follow. Students are prompted when they need to have their drafts reviewed and corrected. They are even given questions to ask their parent that help lead them toward improved writing.

It inspires my son to develop his gift of writing to glorify God. The authors of this curriculum believe that creativity is a gift from God. I wholeheartedly agree. As parents, it is our job to steward the gifts God has given our children as they grow into faithful adults. This is why I’m most excited by the interviews of four new Christian writers.  Volume 2 features interviews with four new authors:

  • Sherri Seligson, a textbook author;
  • Phil Lollar, co-creator of Adventure in Odyssey;
  • Andrew Peterson, songwriter, and author of Christian fantasy; and
  • Jenny Cote, a Christian fiction writer.

I love that this curriculum shows that God can use good writers in many different areas. In return, my son will see that he has many opportunities to point people toward Jesus through his God-given creativity and writing ability.

THE BOTTOM LINE

This homeschool writing curriculum does not disappoint. It’s beautifully designed, easy to follow and my son loves it. He is proud to share what he has written and that makes this momma’s heart happy. I’ve been impressed by what he’s come up with and I enjoy seeing his writing improve with each new draft. I would encourage you to check out Writers in Residence™ to see if it’s a good fit for your homeschool.

You all, it is so important to do everything you c You all, it is so important to do everything you can to make sure to maintain your health and your family's too this season. My family and I always take proactive steps in the winter. Honestly, the steps we have taken in the past have kept my family healthy and we rarely get sick. This year we are adding some extra things to help support our immune system. I've had several people asked me what I'm doing, so a few of my friends and I are actually going to have a little sharing session this Wednesday night (8:15 EST). We will be sharing all the ways we stay proactive with our health, especially in the winter. We'll have some practical tips, as well as some, must-haves to keep on hand to help your family stay above that wellness line.

It's happening this Wednesday (11/18) at 8:15 pm EST. Let me know if you want in and I will get you the dets.

We will be talking about essential oils, but there are so many other things we do as well. We will have a packet for everyone that comes, so you won't have to worry about your hand cramping from all the notes you'll want to write down!
You all, I can't believe it is November! However, You all, I can't believe it is November! However, I'm so glad it is because I am tired of all the crazy this year and I need to change my attitude! I'm going to be intentional this month and practice gratitude.

Here's the thing, I think you should join me because research studies show that finding a bit of thankfulness each day can actually increase your happiness level and decrease depression!! It also increases physical health (hello cold & flu season), brain function, and a sense of fulfillment. I know, with everything going on in the world right now I could use a little more of ALL of that!

So, who's with me? What are you thankful for today?

🍂Today I am thankful for the colorful fall leaves swirling by my windows. 🍂
I love this reminder from the Lord! Last week was I love this reminder from the Lord!

Last week was our first week back to homeschool. And I think it is safe to say that we all dealt with an array of emotions that week. I had to give myself a timeout the first day!! So, this reminder is perfect as we begin this week

After evaluating how things went I can see that it was my thoughts and attitude that was the ultimate cause of my feelings of frustration and irritation. Things weren’t going the way I had planned.

I mean, let’s be honest this year isn’t really going as any of us have planned. Am I right?

Here’s the thing, we have a choice in how we think, and since our thoughts affect our emotions, we have a choice in how we feel.

But praise the Lord we don’t have to let our circumstances dictate our attitude or the the way we think!

WHO ELSE NEEDS THE SPIRIT TO RENEW THEIR THOUGHTS AND ATTITUDE THIS WEEK?
