Any Reading Recommendations?

“All this she must possess,” added Darcy, “and to all this she must yet add something more substantial, in the improvement of her mind by extensive reading.” —Jane Austen (Pride and Prejudice)

I don’t know what happened, but the day my son was born was the beginning of the end of my “extensive reading.”  I didn’t really enjoy reading until Jr. High, and even then I didn’t become an avid reader until high school when I was introduced to Jane Austen.  {sigh} She’s one of my favorites!

I used to read through books in a couple of days and if it was the weekend I could read through a book in a day.

I miss it — getting caught up in a good book.

Therefore one of my goals this year is to read, at least one fiction book a month.  I should be able to handle it.  Right?  No sweat!

The other part of this goal is to read authors I’ve never read before.

Here’s what I have so far:

Amazon.com Widgets

This will get me started, but now I need your help.  What book would you recommend?  Who are your favorite authors?

My favorite genre is romance, but they can get too trashy. So I always read the inspirational ones. I once just went to amazon, typed in “inspirational historical romance” (historical is my favorite type of romance) and found a ZILLION new books and authors! I have also gone to Bethany House’s website and found books that way. Bethany House publishing definitely has the best authors and books! I would recommend pretty much anything they put out! I noticed some of your choices were from Bethany House authors! : )

Pamela you sound like a woman after my own heart! I’m a big fan of inspirational romance! You might have noticed from my book choices. Thank you so much for the recommendations I’m heading to Bethany House now!

hee hee…a lot of those look like Kindle books. 🙂 I love Liz Curtis Higgs and her series and another new favorite author of mine is Cathy Marie Hake. There is a series by Kaye Dacus that you might like if you love Austen too.

They are Kindle books! I don’t have an actual Kindle, but I use the desktop application. I love downloading the free books to check out new authors. Thanks for the suggestions. I’ve already read 4 books, so I need to pick out a few more! Now that I’ve gotten back into reading, I can’t seem to stop!
