Oh, my goodness! I don’t know about you, but I’m not ready to jump into our next school year. This past year was rough dealing with loss and then a new job that moved us to another state. As you can imagine, our school year ended up being a lot longer than originally planned. Although, I have the curriculum we will be doing I don’t know when we’ll be starting it. This mama just needs some time to decompress and breath after an overwhelming start to the new year. I’m still trying to adjust to our new normal.
Once we do decide on our official start date, here’s what we’ll be using:
Our Second Grade Curriculum Choices
Bible: Every morning Lil’man will do his own daily devotion using the YouVerse bible app. Plus, we’ll be following My Father’s World daily devotion schedule. Finally as a family we will be incorporating Apologia’s Who is God? three evenings a week.
History: We’ve decided to part ways with Sonlight. My Charlotte Mason heart, loved how they used living books to teach history, but looking ahead I think it is going to be too much once I have two kids to homeschool full-time. So, I went looking for something similar and found My Father’s World. My Father’s World combines the best of Charlotte Mason’s ideas and classical education with a Biblical worldview. However, it was their Family Cycle that won me over. So, I’ve decided to go with My Father’s World Adventures in U.S. History this year.
Reading: All About Reading Level 3 and Sonlight 3rd Grade Readers
Spelling: All About Spelling Level 2
Writing & Grammar: WriteShop C & Language Lessons for Today- Grade 2
Math: Saxon Math Intermediate 3
Science: We love God’s Design for Science from Answers in Genesis, so instead of using the science provided in My Father’s World we will be continuing on with God’s Design for Heaven and Earth. However, I do plan to use the books or experiments in My Father’s World that coincide with our studies of Heaven and Earth.
Extra: We will continue to incorporate some extra activities when time permits. These activities are additional supplements because my son loves them. If we can’t get to them each week, I don’t sweat it. You can read my review on these products by clicking on the images below.
(NOTE: My Father’s World comes with their own music and art activities that we will be incorporating during his studies.)
Other: Finally, the boy will be enjoying soccer in the fall.
What are your plans for the year?
