Well, its that time again. Time to share our curriculum choices for the new school year. For our second year of homeschooling we decided to pick and choose, instead of using Sonlight for everything. We’re still using Sonlight’s Core for the most part, but I wasn’t really excited about their science, so we’ve gone in a new direction. I don’t know how it is for you, but the whole curriculum selection is quite daunting and I’m always second guessing my decisions. Trusting in the Lord and knowing that no matter what we use, learning will be taking place.
Now for the deets…
Tot School
Dare I say it? I cannot believe I’ll be venturing back into Tot School. My youngest is 18 months, but I know I’ll have to keep him busy during school. I don’t have any concrete plans for him. My goal is just to bring out a variety of materials and toys he can explore. I’ll also incorporate tools so he can start building up his fine motor skills. I will definitely be following his lead.
First Grade
Bible: We’ll be following Sonlight’s Core B daily devotion and reading schedule. We will also be incorporating Grapevine Studies new catechism studies.
History: Sonlight Core B- Intro to the World History (1 of 2)
Reading: All About Reading Level 2 and Sonlight 2nd Grade Readers
Spelling & Handwriting: This year we will be reviewing a couple of products from Alpha Omega Publications for spelling and handwriting.
Writing & Grammar: WriteShop B & Success with Grammar ($1 Deal from Scholastic)
Math: Saxon 2
Science: God’s Design for Life <- Really excited about this one.
Extra: These extra activities are things my son asks for and wants to do. If we run out of time, we put them on the back burner. I’m ok with these activities taking a couple of years to finish.
Other: Lil’man will be participating in several other activities this year outside the home. I’m hoping to plan a field trip once a month to get us out and about more this year. Plus, he will be starting Trail Life USA and children’s choir at our church. Last, but not least he starts soccer tomorrow!
Whew. Well, I think that’s everything. As you can tell it will be a busy year!
What are your plans for the year?

looks great, my 1st grader is trying WriteShop A this year.
This is our first year using WriteShop as well. I have high hopes for it. Keeping my fingers-crossed that it is a good fit for our family.
Back to school books are so much fun! Thanks for sharing 🙂
